As part of Alberta Arts Days, a three-day celebration of the province’s arts and culture, the Royal Tyrrell Museum welcomes you to Palaeopalooza 2009! From September 18 to 20, the Museum is offering free general admission in addition to a series of special events and activities. It’s fun for the whole family! It’s Palaeopalooza 2009! Prospect for fossils, investigate real dinosaur remains, and learn about the creatures and landscape of ancient Alberta. 

11:00 a.m. & 1:00 p.m. Fossil Casting (program fee required)
Make your very own fossil replica, learn about the fossil’s origin and when and why replicas are used. 

11:30 a.m. & 4:00 p.m. Passion for the Past  (Free!)

The scientists at the Museum are experts in their fields of palaeontological research. Get to know them, and learn how they uncover the fascinating mysteries of the past.


1:30 p.m. Behind the Scenes (Free!)
Take a video tour behind-the-scenes and find out what happens to fossils once they're collected in the field in this 15-minute video presentation.


2:30 p.m. Seven Wonders of the Badlands (program fee required)
Marvel at the wonders of the badlands in this guided hike through Midland Provincial Park. 


3:00 p.m. Dinosaurs in the Movies  (Free!)
Discover how the portrayals of dinosaurs in movies, and our scientific understanding of them, have evolved together.

Join artists from the Badlands Gallery as they teach you to make art from every day objects found in your home in a series of family fun activities.

    11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Playing with Paint.     

    Using recycled materials create your very own masterpiece!


    1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Creative Drawing. 
    Learn to sketch your very own 65 million year old still life.


    2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Build Your Own Dino-head! 
With recycled materials build your own dinosaur head!


** Registration will be available Sunday, September 20 at the Museum's Program Desk. We can only accommodate a maximum of 20 individuals per activity and adult accompaniment is required for children age 12 and under.
