Edmonton boy is Royal Tyrrell Museum's 10-millionth visitor
Just after five o’clock on Thursday August 19, Dayton Stachniak of Edmonton was officially recognized as the Royal Tyrrell Museum’s 10-millionth visitor since the facility opened in 1985. Staff of the Royal Tyrrell Museum, including Executive Director Andrew Neuman, welcomed nine-year-old Dayton, his parents Lisa and Jeff Stachniak, and friend Anthony Chinni with a bouquet of balloons, commemorative t-shirts and an honour guard of two local RCMP officers.
“We were joking with my parents before we came here when we heard about the 10 millionth visit," laughed Lisa Stachniak. "And now that it’s Dayton, I just can’t believe it. It’s fantastic.” Dayton and the group received free admission, gifts from the Museum gift shop and an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the Museum. Dayton also receives a unique ‘Discover Alberta’ prize package offering free passes to more than 25 attractions across the province, enough to keep him and his family busy having fun for the next year.
“In the 25 years since it opened its doors, the Royal Tyrrell Museum has become renowned across Canada and around the world,” said Premier Ed Stelmach. “Its scientific team has made many important discoveries and the Museum staff has worked hard to make priceless memories for 10 million visitors. All Albertans can be proud of the Royal Tyrrell Museum.”

The Royal Tyrrell Museum also invites everyone to anniversary celebrations September 17, 18, and 19 in conjunction with Alberta Arts Days and the official Royal Tyrrell Museum’s birthday party on Saturday, September 25.
