It was a startlingly different world two million years ago, with vast areas of the Northern Hemisphere covered in ice. Giant mammoths, mastodons, bison, and sabre-toothed cats roamed the land. Our own species, Homo sapiens, emigrated from Asia to North America across a land connection known as the Bering Land Bridge, spanning from Alaska to Siberia.
