Current ExhibitsCretaceous Garden

Alberta was once a humid region, rich with swamps, ponds, marshes and hungry herbivores.

The Cretaceous Garden is one of the largest living collections of prehistoric plants in Canada and is a representation of plant life in the Drumheller valley during the Late Cretaceous Period (70-65 million years ago). With over 300 species, the Garden offers new insights into the flora of the Horseshoe Canyon Formation based on the fossil record. This rare collection allows researchers to study environmental change through time by comparing prehistoric plants with those we live with today.
