Expedition Mongolia

Follow the adventures of Museum scientist, Dr. David Eberth, as he joins a team of world experts exploring Mongolia’s Gobi Desert in search of dinosaurs.

As part of the 2009 Korea-Mongolia International Dinosaur Project, Eberth is working with leading scientists from around the world to study the environmental changes that impacted Central Asian dinosaurs over 70 million years ago.

The month long expedition starts in Mongolia’s capital, Ulaan Baatar, and travels by truck-caravan for 670 km southwest to Nemegt (neh-meh-GET). This area, rich in fossil diversity, is the main focus of the expedition. Using high resolution satellite imagery, GPS technology, and precise sampling techniques the team hopes to identify dinosaur occurrences and their geological context.
